Mineral Filler for Bituminous Paving Mixtures

Reference AASHTO M 17-11/ASTM D 242M-09

AASHTO M 17-11/ASTM D 242M-09 specification covers mineral filler added as a separate ingredient for use in bituminous paving mixtures. Mineral Filler shall conform to the grading requirements given in adjoining input table.

This TransCalc tool can be used to plot the particle size grading of upto three samples. The input data can also be saved in the form of a pdf report. The plots are interactive and can be zoomed in or out and hovered over for additional data display. The plot can be saved by using the toolbars located on the top right of each plot. Please make use of the help texts provided in each input cell for further guidance on the usage of this tool.

The standard describes Mineral Filler as finely divided mineral matter such as rock dust, slag dust, hydrated lime, hydraulic cement, fly ash, loess, or other suitable mineral matter. The mineral filler shall be sufficiently dry to flow freely and essentially free from agglomerations.

Mineral Filler prepared from rock dust, slag dust, loess, and similar materials shall be essentially free from organic impurities and have a plasticity index not greater than 4.
Fly ash used as a mineral filler shall have a maximum loss on ignition of 12 percent , determined according to ASTM C311/C311M.
Mineral filler is sampled as per ASTM C 50/ASTM C 183/ASTM C 311/AASHTO T 127. The grading of the material is determined by ASTM D 546/AASHTO T 37 and plasticity index by ASTM D 4318/AASHTO T 90.
